The College of Science (CoS) at King Khalid University was established in 17–01–1976 as a branch of the College of Education at King Saud University in Abha. The establishment was based on the recommendation of the Supreme Committee for Education Policy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the chairmanship of HRH Crown Prince. At that time, College of Education was established with two departments, namely, Scientific Studies and Humanity Studies. The Department of Scientific Studies, the core of the current College of Science, offered two programs, namely, Bachelor of Education in Biology and Bachelor of Education in Physics. The first graduation batch of these two programs was in 1980. In 1977, two more programs were offered by the College of Education, namely, Bachelor of Education in Chemistry and Bachelor of Education in Mathematics. The first graduation batch of Chemistry and Mathematics programs was in 1981. Thereafter, these four academic programs had been managed by four departments under the College of Education.

1. Distinguished outputs pursuing the national needs that contribute to building people, society, and the economy considering the Kingdom's vision 2030.
2. Promote Mathematics and its discoveries in the Kingdom.
3. Provide distinguished accredited academic programs with international standards.
4. Perform widely recognized research in various areas of mathematics and statistics and their applications.
5. Promote interdisciplinary research and academic programs in collaboration with industries and other research institutes in and outside Saudi Arabia.
6. Sharpen abilities in quantitative and logical reasoning needed for informed citizenship and productive employment.
