Professor Ahmed Tahir Mubarak. A journey of research and hard work culminated in achieving excellence.

Professor Ahmed Tahir Mubarak is a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, College of Science at King Khalid University. He is one of the national distinguished academic competencies and experiences. He obtained his bachelor’s degree (BSc) in chemistry from King Saud University in 1403-1983, followed by obtaining a master’s degree (MSc) from the Department of Chemistry at King Saud University in 1414-1994, he also received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom in the field of catalysis chemistry in 1420-2000.

He officially obtained his academic position rankings until he became a professor of inorganic chemistry in the Department of Chemistry 1432 - 2012, during this period he Was appointed in many scientific and administrative positions at King Khalid University, where he was head of the Chemistry Department for three consecutive terms, and director of the Advanced Materials Research Center (RCAMS), as well as coordinator of researches financially supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology at King Khalid University. He was appointed Vice Dean of the Science College for Administrative Affairs 1428-2008, then Vice Dean of the Scientific Research and Dean of Scientific Research at King Khalid University 1430-2010. In 1432-2012, a decision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Supreme President of Universities, was issued to be the Vice-president for Graduate Studies and Research at King Khalid University.

He worked as a chairman or an effective member in many scientific committees and councils in and out of the university, in addition to his membership in many Saudi and foreign chemical societies. He has many scientific papers published in distinguished scientific publishing journals (ISI) with a high impact factor, whose contents are cited by a large number of researchers around the world. He has also reviewed a great number of chemical research and books to be published in specialized international scientific journals, as well as edited a book on the chemistry of lanthanides. He also has participated in workshops and conferences inside the Kingdom and abroad.

Professor Ahmed supervised several postgraduate theses (Master's and Ph.D.). His research interest is in the field of inorganic chemistry and the chemistry of heterogeneous catalysis and its applications in the petrochemical industries and exhaust emission control, in addition to the oxidation of alkanes and the hydrogenation of alkenes. He was the leading researcher with SABIC team to design novel catalytic research on new Metallocenes catalysts towards polymerization of olefins used in the polyethylene industry, as well as a major project of cyclohexane oxidation supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). Designing, synthesizing, and characterizing coordination complexes used for biological and pharmaceutical purposes are also in his research interest.

He has various scientific interests that reflect his strong passion for science and learning in his academic field and in every field related to the development of his expertise in his field of specialization. He also believes in every new idea that will improve cognitive development. He was also known for his constant encouragement of positive thinking initiatives in scientific research methods, believing in the importance of this in maximizing the economic impact of knowledge on the future of science and technology in Saudi Arabia.
