Education

  • PhD, University of Manchester, UK, 2010.
  • MSc, Southern Illinois University, USA, 2005.
  • Bachelor of Science, King Khalid University (Formerly called King Saud University, Abha Branch), 1999.

Scientific Achievements

  • Awarded the SIAM Paper Prize in 2009 for the paper “A New Scaling and Squaring Algorithm for the Matrix Exponential.”
  • Authored and coauthored papers published in several leading and prestigious journals, including SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis, and Numerical Algorithms
  • Contributed to numerous numerical algorithms and software for matrix functions:
    1. The built-in MATLAB functions expm for the matrix exponential and logm for the matrix logarithm. The algorithm underlying expm was based on the SIAM Prize-winning paper and it was tested and featured by Cleve Moler, the inventor of MATLAB and the cofounder of MathWorks.
    2. The built-in Python/SciPy functions scipy.linalg.expm, scipy.linalg.logm, scipy.sparse.linalg.expm_multiply, and scipy.linalg.expm_frechet.
    3. Sixteen built-in FORTRAN routines in the nAG Library, Chapter f01.
    4. Other publicly available software on GitHub (expmv, phi_funm, phimv, cfphimv, funmv, expm_block_tri).
