College of Science Club Hosts "Genetic Fingerprinting" Program
On the morning of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the College of Science Club—in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs (Student Activities Unit)—organized a distinctive specialized program titled "Genetic Fingerprinting." Held in the College of Science lobby, the event was attended by over sixty students from various departments across the college.
This event was part of a series of specialized programs offered by the club to bridge theoretical concepts in basic sciences with real-world applications—particularly in fields closely linked to society and security, such as forensics, forensic medicine, and DNA analysis.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from club representatives, who outlined the event's objectives and the importance of understanding the mechanisms of individual identification via genetic fingerprinting. They emphasized that such activities reflect the college's mission to foster scientific creativity and develop students' research and analytical skills.
The event featured valuable scientific contributions from Prof. Dr. Nasser Awad and Dr. Mohammed Al-Shehri, who presented advanced insights into genetic fingerprinting. They discussed modern applications of genetic technologies and their role in serving justice, protecting society, and uncovering scientific facts. They also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary integration—combining physics, chemistry, and biology—to support genetic analysis and the development of modern detection tools. The event was distinguished by its interactive nature, featuring in-depth scholarly discussions between faculty members and students. These exchanges raised various scientific questions regarding the accuracy of genetic fingerprinting and its potential application in future student research projects, alongside a discussion of the ethical and legal dimensions associated with its use in criminal investigations.
At the conclusion of the event, students expressed their appreciation for this enriching initiative, which bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. They emphasized that such activities help hone their skills and strengthen their engagement with scientific research. Meanwhile, the college club acknowledged the support provided by the Deanship of Student Affairs, highlighting its ongoing backing of college initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of science, innovation, and social responsibility.
