Discussion of the first Doctoral Dissertation in the College of Science (Chemistry Department) by the Ph.D. Amal Ali Atran in the field of Physical Chemistry

On Thursday, Dhu al-Qi’dah 15, 1445 AH, May 23, 2024, the first doctoral dissertation was discussed at the College of Science (Chemistry Department), submitted by the student Amal Ali Manea Atran to obtain a doctoral degree in the field of “physical chemistry,” and its title is: “Tuning the catalytic, optical, and adsorptive properties of cerium oxide”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Hamdy and Dr. Fatima Abdel Samie. The discussion committee consisted of: Prof. Dr. Mohamed Hamdy (supervisor), Prof. Dr. Reda Mohammadi (external examiner), Prof. Dr. Selvaraj Manickam (internal examiner), Dr. Ismat Hassan (internal examiner), and Dr. Abdullah Al Hanash (internal examiner). The dissertation consisted of ten chapters that included an introduction to the study, methods of preparation and description, applications, and results, in addition to the conclusion and recommendations. The scientific outcomes of the dissertation included a patent, thirteen scientific papers in classified journals, and one book chapter, in addition to participation in four international conferences. After a discussion that lasted for approximately three hours, the committee vacated for deliberation, and the committee recommended accepting the dissertation and granting the student the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Science, specializing in physical chemistry.
