Determination of Essential and Toxic Elements in different Foods Types

Summary

Foods quality can be affected by different conditions, which lead to contaminated foodstuff. Therefore, foods quality varies depending upon several factors. Location of farms, packing and transport will influence foods quality. Contaminated foods pose serious health problems to human health. Therefore, investigation of foods quality will help in a suitable utilization of different foods sources. The importance of this research is helping a community to consume good quality of foods. Moreover, this will help in decreasing health problems. The main goal is to enable people to consume good quality food. The limited of such study is a driving force behind this research to ease access to healthy foods. To make more database available for related authority to assess different foods types and their suitability for human consumption. Different methods of analytical chemistry will be used to analysis the food samples. The classical methods are gravimetric analysis and volumetric titrations. The instrumental methods are UV/Vis spectrophotometry, IR spectroscopy and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Elements to be analyzed in different samples are copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), selenium (Se), cobalt (Co) and others.

Detection of cytological changes in the Oral Mucosa among Local users of Tobacco in Najran in the KSA

Summary

This study was conducted in Najran city to detect the Cytological changes in the oral mucosa of tobacco users by applying AgNOR to determine the mean NOR counts. To use micronucleus assay to find micronuclei frequency per buccal cells. Also by using Papanicolaou stain method to detect the cytological atypical changes induced by Tobacco use and KI 67 as immunohistochemistry proliferation marker to confirm the change. This study is considered as an early screening program for pre-malignancy in oral mucosa. Early detection is possible for lesion caused by potential cancers. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the changes caused by tobacco use and to test the application of simple methods , cost-effective technologies, selective and specific in assessing the pre-cancer proliferative activity. Thirty to 80 percent of malignant tumors in the oral cavity lesions arising from pre-stage, such as leukoplakia, erythroplakia and fibrosis. The main objective of this study was to contribute in serving the local community and to raise the awareness about the hazard of using local tobacco (shemma). Moreover, is to help in formulating the right health policy as preventive measurements and to avoid any adverse health effects that can be caused by tobacco use. This study is on the line adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Ministry of Health to warn about the dangers of tobacco and help to quit using it. The results of this study will serve in the same direction for health awareness and advice about the risks of tobacco.
